Dear Parents, Carers and Children,

Welcome to the 'Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) section of the Jesmond Gardens website.

All children at Jesmond Gardens Primary School make very good progress but children with special needs often require more support. We believe that our school does this very well.

All staff at Jesmond Gardens believe that every child has an entitlement to personal, social and intellectual development and must be given the opportunity to achieve his/her potential in learning.

To achieve this we have a range of staff in each to support all children to strive for the very best that he/she can achieve.

A team leader leads each of our units. They are responsible for the progress of each child in the unit and along with the registration teacher is a main point of contact for any parent who wishes to discuss the progress of any child.

Most children with special needs are able to progress within the unit by receiving good teaching and additional intervention by the teacher or teaching assistants. Jesmond Gardens has a unique system whereby teachers spend afternoons with specific children following an assessment of progress from the morning’s lessons. This gives us a great advantage as children receive quick “catch up” sessions to enable them to be ready for the next days lessons.

There are occasions when this additionality is not enough and therefore our Inclusion Manager will become involved at the request of the team leader or teacher. At this point parents will be fully involved in the action that might be taken to support the child. This may require involvement of other agencies such as speech and language and Educational Psychologists.

Hopefully you will find the different pages on the SEND section of our website informative and useful. If you have any questions about SEND or your child's education, please feel free to speak to the Inclusion Manager (Mrs Dixon), or the Head Teacher.
